ABOUT

YS BLADES are the ultimate figure skating blades made in Japan by Yamaichi Special Steel Co., Ltd. Since 2013, we have been crafting blades with superior craftsmanship. Within only several years after its debut, YS BLADES made it to the podium of the world's biggest stages. What made this possible was our century-long experience specializing in steel, advanced metal processing technology, top-tier equipment, and most importantly our passion and dedication to craft blades that truly support skaters. To all figure skaters aiming for the top, let's see what we can achieve together.

Cutting-edge manufacturing methods

While most figure skating blades are made by welding or assembling multiple metal parts, YS BLADES take a unique, cutting-edge approach. Each blade is meticulously machined from a solid 10kg block of special steel, and the resulting blade weighs only about 270g.

The advantages of precision machining

1.Durability

The machined one-piece structure increases durability.

2.Stable Quality

Yamaichi Special Steel’s metal processing technology allows us to supply stable blades with almost no errors or variations.

Beyond technique, Yamaichi Special Steel’s commitment to superior materials sets YS BLADES apart.

Being a company that handles more than 50 types of special steels, we have carefully selected the ideal material that offers the best balance of sharpness, durability, and glide for figure skaters. As a result of numerous trials and errors, we have succeeded in providing the highest quality glide.

What is “YS”?

YS is an abbreviation of our company name “Yamaichi Special Steel”

“SPECIAL STEEL” means special “HAGANE” in Japanese.

YS also stands for “Yasuki Special Steel”

Yasuki Special Steel (Yasuki Hagane) is a brand name of highgrade special steel made in Yasugi city, Japan.

Our material is Tama Hagane, a type of Yasuki Special Steel, also used for Japanese swords.

Tama Hagane, used in the making of Japanese swords, is still produced in the Okuizumo region of Japan, using a manufacturing method called “Tatara” which has a history of more than a
thousand years.

YS BLADES inspired by Japanese swords.

Japanese swords made from “TAMA HAGANE” are characterised as "unbreakable, unbendable, and razor sharp." It is no wonder then that we would use this steel to design our YS BLADES.
